christmas in seoul

Christmas isn't much of a celebrated holiday here in Korea. People work on Christmas Eve and everything is pretty much open on Christmas day. The decorations are gorgeous, but the atmosphere isn't nearly the same as back in the states. It's crowded everywhere, every day, so you don't get the bewildering sense that the whole world is shopping for gifts. The holiday isn't really a family holiday either -- it's more of a time to exchange gifts and spend time with a significant other.

So you can see why Christmas here doesn't quite feel like Christmas. However, I've been fortunate enough to find some people to celebrate the day with -- and my hope is that everyone out there has someone to share a laugh, break a tear and spend time with on this day.

Merry Christmas from Korea.
